index_chocolate.gifDo you know what the source is for the delicious chocolate smell at the Millbrae BART station?

Visit sites like Chowhound or Metafilter and you'll see that chocolate-craving Bay Area residents have been wondering the same question for years. The online consensus is that the Guittard chocolate factory in nearby Burlingame is responsible for the smell. A Guittard factory representative confirmed this for me, kind of - "I can't be sure, but it's likely that the wind carries the smell," the worker told me.

I'm clearly a pro at answering dessert aroma-related questions (See: Ask the Appeal: What is That Delicious Smell Near the W?). Got any more for me?

Think of "Ask the Appeal" as your own personal genie: no Bay-related question is too big or too small. Whether you're concerned with a municipal question, a consumer advocacy issue or simply with consuming alcohol, email us your questions at ask@sfappeal.com (or, find answers to past questions here). We'll either do the dirty work and talk to the folks in charge, contact an expert in the field, or - if your question is particularly intriguing or juicy - develop it into a full-blown investigative article.
