cover-crosswalk.jpgA 5-year-old boy hit by a shuttle bus while crossing a street in San Francisco’s Bayview District on Thursday afternoon is now expected to survive the injuries he suffered in the crash, police said today.

The boy was struck at 3:39 p.m. at the intersection of Third Street and Williams Avenue.
He was walking with a woman and another child but was trailing behind as they walked south in the crosswalk across Williams Avenue, according to police.

A private shuttle bus traveling east on Williams Avenue struck the boy as it turned right onto Third Street.

The 5-year-old was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with internal injuries. The injuries were initially considered life-threatening, but his condition has since been upgraded, police said.

The shuttle bus, which had one passenger onboard, stopped at the scene and the driver cooperated with investigators. Both the driver and passenger were uninjured.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and no arrests have been made, according to police.
