2:48 PM: The Appeal’s Matt Baume is starting to make us suspicious! First he sends this photo from last night’s Western Addition blaze, now he’s on the scene at Ellis and Larkin as SFFD fights another fire. Matty, this is starting to look bad!
According to Baume, “there are burning smells in the air” but the matter is apparently not urgent, as “nobody is in much of a rush, though, and nothing visible is really happening.” I have called the SFFD’s spokesperson in case that is an inaccurate assessment, and will update if/when I hear more.
4:01 PM: One person was hospitalized after a one-alarm fire at a residential hotel in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood this afternoon, fire officials said.
The fire was reported at 2:11 p.m. on the third floor of the four-story Marathon Hotel, a residential hotel at 710 Ellis St., fire department spokeswoman Lt. Mindy Talmadge said.
Firefighters brought the fire under control at 2:28 p.m. It was confined to one apartment unit, she said.
Talmadge said one person was being treated for smoke inhalation.
The hotel was evacuated during the fire and no other injuries were reported, Talmadge said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
