Elderly Man Identified in Suspicious Death Case at Residential Care Facility

A 78-year-old man whose death at a residential care facility in San Francisco’s Balboa Terrace neighborhood is being investigated as suspicious has been identified.

Michael Forrestal’s suspicious death was reported shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 100 block of Aptos Street, near Ocean Avenue, according to the medical examiner’s office.

San Francisco police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said medics responded to the home and pronounced Forrestal dead at the scene.

While police have not made any arrests in connection with the death, the incident was initially reported as a possible stabbing and Forrestal appeared to have suffered suspicious wounds, according to Gatpandan.

Gatpandan said she didn’t know how long Forrestal had been dead prior to the arrival of medics.

The medical examiner’s office ruled the death suspicious and is investigating the cause of Forrestal’s death.
