Aspiring Sock Thief Punches Security Guard

A 27-year-old man punched a security guard in an attempt to steal a pair of socks from a Mission District store on Monday afternoon, according to San Francisco police.

The suspect entered the store on the 2600 block of Mission Street, which is near 22nd Street, early in the afternoon and put on a shirt, underwear and socks, police said.

The suspect paid for the shirt and underwear, but not the socks, according to police. He then ran out of the store, police said.

When a security guard tried to intercept the suspect, the suspect punched him several times in the face, police said.

Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of robbery.
