The Ghirardelli Square retail complex, which houses the flagship store of the famed San Francisco chocolate company, has been sold to an Atlanta-based real estate investment firm.

The retail plaza at 900 N. Point St. near Fisherman’s Wharf was bought by Jamestown for an undisclosed amount, with various shops, restaurants and the chocolate company store part of the sale.

The deal on the property official closed on Monday, company officials said.

Jamestown officials said it has plans for a “multi-million dollar renovation” over the next two years that will revitalize the historic 100,394-square-foot plaza.

Jamestown owns similar retail complexes throughout the U.S., including Chelsea Market in New York City and Ponce City Market in Atlanta.

At the time of the sale, tenants occupied 55 percent of the retail space at the site’s 12 buildings. The sale also includes an underground garage and a parking structure.

According to the firm, 12.4 million visitors come to the shopping complex each year, making it a popular tourist destination.
