earthquake.jpgThe U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that two earthquakes shook Santa Clara County this morning, one with a preliminary magnitude of 3.3, the other a 2.1. These two earthquakes follow another quake that struck the area Monday night at around 9:53p.m..

According to the USGS, at 6:28 a.m. the 3.3 magnitude quake rattled an area north of Henry W. Coe State Park in the foothills about 20 miles east of San Jose. The tremor had a depth of 3.8 miles, and is the third and largest quake in the region in the past nine hours, according to the USGS.

At 4:35 a.m., a 2.1 magnitude tremor rattled an area around the Calaveras Reservoir in the foothills east of San Jose.

The quake, which had a depth of 3.2 miles, originated from a section of the Calaveras Fault about 10 miles north-northeast of downtown San Jose, according to the USGS.
