The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.1 rattled Santa Clara County Monday night.
According to the USGS, at 9:53 p.m. the quake shook an area just north of Joseph D. Grant County Park in the foothills east of San Jose.
The tremor, which had a depth of 2.0 miles, originated from a section of the Calaveras Fault about 10 miles east-northeast of downtown San Jose, according to the USGS.
