SaintPatrick_Mar17.jpgToday is, as you know, St. Patrick’s Day. Much to the understandable dismay of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, today’s a day when the most offensive stereotypes of Irish people and their culture are perpetuated, so we at the Appeal urge you to read their anti-defamation handout and internalize their message.

OK, now let’s talk about wearing green and getting fucked up!

You already know that The Irish Cultural Center has 4 bars on their premises, not the rumored 13. But did you know that you could have been there, getting hammered and watching the Gaelic Games, since 6:45 this morning? Well, now you do. The center has festivities planned for the whole day, with lunch/dinner beginning at 11:30 this morning. The better to soak up the booze.

The SF Examiner’s executive editor Deirdre Hussey is about as authentic a first-generation Irish-American as they come, so I have a lot of confidence in her paper’s St. Patrick’s Day bar picks.

SF society Chronicler Catherine Bigelow, who makes frequent references to her own “black Irish heart,” pulls together another list of events for the day. She includes my personal top pick — a dance party at one of my favorite Outer Sunset bars, Costello’s Four Deuces. Oh my god, I love Costello’s so much, but, y’all, it is so not for amateurs.

But, whatever you do, remember to wear green — as SFist’s (Welsh/Scottish, hence his roses and cream complexion) Brock Keeling points out, for whatever reason, people feel compelled to pinch people not clad in green today. It is quite odd!

At the end of the night, we urge you, take that free cab ride home from Luxor Cab. Their number’s 415- 282-4141, put it in your phone now. Just mention Berg Injury Lawyers when you call to get your cab ride home, and know that $35 of it will be covered — the rest is on you. More details are here.

One more reason to take that ride: CHP says they will be conducting a DUI checkpoint between 6:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. tonight, “at an undisclosed location.” They will arrest anyone who flunks the drunk test, they say.

And tomorrow morning, when you feel like shit, and get all nostalgic over how you could drink until 4 then go to work at 7 when you were 22, take dubious comfort in the fact that it’s not in your head. People really do have a harder time recovering from hangovers as they age, say people paid money to know these things.
