The mainstream movie fare is pretty thin in these post-Oscar days. Plenty of award nominees and winners are still playing, but here are a few interesting alternatives:
Treeless Mountain – Sudance Kabuki
The festival with the most letters in its acronym, SFIAAFF, closes its San Francisco (still going in San Jose) programming Thursday night with Treeless Mountain at the Kabuki. The festival website calls it a “sharply observed character drama driven by a delicate simplicity” and “an uplifting tale that captures the beauty of childhood innocence.” After party at Temple.
Terminator 2 – The Clay
Midnight showing of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Last week Alien, this week T2; someone’s after my heart. March 20, 21. If you’re wondering what time it plays, you should probably be paying more attention. Info.
Sunshine Cleaning – Embarcadero Cinema
Sisters (Amy Adams and Emily Blunt) go into business as crime scene maids (it’s pretty literal) to raise some cash. Has a Little Miss Sunshine feel. Alan Arkin co-stars.
The Sari Soldiers – Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
Six women on opposite sides of conflict in Nepal live stories that examine the region’s fragile state. Nothing funny about that. Thursday, March 19, 7:30PM. Info.
