The San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival (You said it, SFIAAFF) kicks off tonight at the Castro. Opening piece, My Dear Enemy, follows a mismatched (and therefore perfectly matched) young Korean couple on a money collecting trip through Seoul. Energetic, enigmatic, and charming all the while.
The festival continues through Sunday the 22nd and it’s pretty huge. Scores of movies play all next week at the Castro Theater, Sundance Kabuki, 111 Minna, The Pacific Film Archive in Berkeley and more locations. We’ll be throwing out highlights and reviews all week. Info/schedules: SFIAAFF.

12, a contemporary retelling of the classic 12 Angry Men, has garnered some nice praise of late. Directed by the venerable Nikita Mikhalkov. In Russian. Plays at the Lumiere Theater starting Friday, March 13 for one week only.
Alien: Director’s Cut, midnight showing at the Clay Theater. Fri & Sat, Mar 13 & 14. The machine gun wielding duo of Tom Skerritt and Sigourney Weaver blast alien scum.
Everlasting Moments. Embarcadero Cinema, starts March 13. “When a young working class woman named Maria (Maria Heiskanen) wins a camera in a lottery, her first impulse is to sell it for grocery money but instead she decides to keep it, changing her whole life.” Need I say more? Swedish academy award entry.
