Massage Instructor Arrested for Allegedly Ripping Off Students

A San Francisco man who was teaching uncertified massage classes at a school in the city’s Sunset District was charged with 10 counts of grand theft on Monday, according to the district attorney’s office.

Frank Tu, 65, was arrested on Friday and entered a not guilty plea after being accused of offering massage classes in 2011 to multiple Chinese-speaking victims and charging them between $1,500 and $3,000 per student.

He allegedly told the students that by taking the class they would become licensed massage therapists, but because he was not accredited, the students were not certified, resulting in a total loss of $17,000 to his students.

Tu allegedly taught the massage classes at San Francisco Technology University located at 1030 Taraval St., according to the office of the district attorney.
