Goodies By Anna: Melty Salted Nutella Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Using large chocolate wafers coupled with the hefty scoop of Nutella makes for one gooey, melty chocolate lovers’ dream cookie! The addition of a sprinkle of sea salt really rounds out the flavor and makes this treat truly delicious. The brown sugar in these cookies creates a rich toffee like flavor that works perfectly with chocolate.

And speaking of chocolate, I went with a 60% cacao Bittersweet Chocolate instead of the semi-sweet called for in the recipe. I really like the not-so-sweet flavor of bittersweet chocolate with the brown sugar and sea salt and because I used the wafers there is plenty of gooey melted chocolate in every cookie bite.

I looked everywhere for the Jiff Salted Caramel Hazelnut Spread but I couldn’t find it so I just went with the Nutella but I don’t think i’m really missing anything. Here is how you can make your own.

You can find the basic recipe here. Start by lining a baking sheet with parchment or Silpat and set aside.

In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment cream together the butter, sugars and Nutella until light and fluffy.

Mix in the eggs and vanilla until just combined. Mix in the flour until just combined then mix in the chocolate wafers. Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

After the dough has chilled, use a #24 scoop and place dough balls two inches apart on prepared baking sheet. Top each ball with sea salt. Bake for 10-11 minutes. Let cool on wire rack. Store in an air tight container.
