A San Francisco sheriff’s lieutenant who was placed on probation earlier this year in connection with a domestic violence charge is back in custody on an alleged probation violation, according to prosecutors.
Vincent Calvarese is scheduled to appear in San Francisco Superior Court Monday morning for a hearing on a motion to revoke his probation, according to San Francisco District Attorney’s Office spokesman Alex Bastian.
Calvarese, who was placed on probation after being convicted of misdemeanor false imprisonment, is currently back in custody in lieu of $75,000 bail, Bastian said.
Calvarese was arrested in July of 2012 after a fight in the locker room of the Gold’s Gym at 2301 Market Street in the Castro District.
Calvarese and the victim had dated briefly between January and March of that year, but were no longer together, prosecutors said at the time.
After running into each other at the gym, the two got into an argument that turned physical. Calvarese allegedly pushed and punched the victim and told him “I’m a captain, I can have you arrested,” prosecutors said.
Calvarese joined the sheriff’s department in 1994, and was profiled in the 2009 documentary “The Butch Factor,” where he spoke about being an openly gay law enforcement officer.
