Streets are reopening in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood after a suspicious package was removed and rendered safe, according to police.

The suspicious item was removed by the bomb squad, taken to a remote location and rendered safe, Officer Albie Esparza said this afternoon.

Esparza said he could not disclose the nature of the item.

Pedestrians were evacuated and streets closed around Vallejo and Stockton streets after a suspicious package was reported on the street there around 1:40 p.m., Esparza said.
