A San Francisco man with ties to a local gang was arrested Wednesday night after he struck a police vehicle with his car while attempting to evade police in San Francisco’s Sunnyside neighborhood, a police sergeant said.
The 24-year-old man was released from federal prison earlier this week after serving time for firearms violations. He was wanted for failing to report to his parole meeting and a warrant for his parole violation was issued, according to San Francisco police Sgt. Michael Andraychak.
Officers spotted the suspect near the intersection of Monterey Boulevard and Gennessee Street at about 3 p.m., according to Andraychak.
The suspect fled the scene in a green Ford Mustang and collided with a marked police car before he sped away from the area.
No officers were injured in the collision, Andraychak said.
Police soon located the suspect vehicle abandoned near Holly Park Circle in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood.
Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
At about 8:30 p.m., police received an anonymous tip reporting that the suspect was inside a residence in the 100 block of Appleton Avenue, just off of Holly Park Circle.
Police confirmed that the suspect was inside the house and set up a perimeter.
The San Francisco Police Department’s Tactical Unit, Canine Unit and Crisis Negotiators responded to the scene, Andraychak said.
Police made contact with the suspect and he surrendered without further incident. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody, Andraychak said.
