Eight state, city and county level emergency managers from California communities including San Francisco are deploying to the East Coast to assist in recovery efforts for Hurricane Sandy, according to the California Emergency Management Agency.

The deployed emergency management personnel will head for Westchester County Department of Emergency Services in Hawthorn, New York, Cal EMA officials said.

The deployment is being coordinated through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, a national agreement allowing states to share emergency resources.
