wave.jpgA water main break that has left Treasure Island residents without water service overnight is expected to be repaired and service restored soon, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

The rupture occurred between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday, leaving the island without water service throughout the night, according to a fire dispatcher. Yerba Buena Island was not affected.

Water service should be restored soon, according to a statement from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission released around 3:45 a.m.

Once water services is restored, the SFPUC is advising those on Treasure Island to boil tap water before drinking as a precautionary measure while repairs are completed, according to the SFPUC.

Those who do not purify tap water before drinking could risk a stomach or intestinal illness, according to an SFPUC advisory issued this morning.

The utilities commission believes residents should be able to stop boiling tap water before drinking by Monday morning.

No emergencies have been reported in connection with the loss of water service, a fire dispatcher said.
