sfpd_squad.jpgPolice in San Francisco had a brief confrontation with protesters at the site of a former Occupy San Francisco encampment tonight, police said.

About five protesters dressed in black gathered on the sidewalk outside of the Federal Reserve building at 101 Market St. tonight, where police made 45 arrests while clearing an encampment there late last night and early this morning, Officer Albie Esparza said.

Some officers were posted in the area to prevent another encampment from being established there.

The group began taunting officers and were shortly joined by another group, eventually growing to about 30 protesters. Several of the protesters began throwing bottles at the officers, Esparza said.

Police then called for reinforcements, and protesters dispersed when they arrived.

Esparza said police would maintain a presence in the area throughout the night.

Protesters at the scene reported an arrest there earlier in the night, however police could not immediately confirm any arrests.
