sfpd_arrestcuffs.jpgA man was arrested after he allegedly robbed and assaulted a woman in San Francisco’s Panhandle neighborhood this afternoon, a police spokesman said.

Police responded to a report of a robbery in the 1700 block of Fell Street at 2:22 p.m., Officer Albie Esparza said.

Esparza said the suspect had assaulted a woman, taken her purse and fled. The woman’s boyfriend chased after the suspect, he said.

Police set a perimeter in the area of Ashbury Street and Masonic Avenue.

The suspect was detained at 2:27 p.m. after he was found nearby hiding between two houses, Esparza said.

Esparza did not know whether the woman was injured, and said the investigation is ongoing.
