Alfonso Williams and Antonio Gilton were arrested Wednesday in connection with the killing of Calvin Sneed, 22, of Compton, who was shot shortly after 2 a.m. on June 4 near Meade and Le Conte avenues in San Francisco’s Bayview District, district attorney’s office spokesman Alex Bastian said.

Williams and Gilton have been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and various firearm offenses. They are expected to make their initial appearance in court at the San Francisco Hall of Justice this afternoon, Bastian said.

Lupe Mercado, 37, and Barry Gilton, 38, a longtime couple whose 17-year-old daughter was allegedly being pimped by Sneed in the Los Angeles area, have also been charged in connection with his death and have pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

According to the criminal complaint against Williams and Antonio Gilton, the pair allegedly met up with Barry Gilton in the 1400 block of Grove Street early the morning of June 4.

Prosecutors said in the complaint that Williams then retrieved a handgun from a Chevrolet TrailBlazer and that the trio drove in a Hyundai Tucson to the Bayview District and waited for Sneed on Meade Avenue. They then allegedly drove alongside Sneed’s car and Barry Gilton shot him in the head, the complaint states.

Sneed crashed into a parked car and died at a hospital later that morning.

Williams and Antonio Gilton both have prior convictions–Williams in 1998 for being an accessory to a crime after the fact, and Gilton in 2007 for carrying a concealed firearm and again in 2008 for possession of cocaine with the intent to sell, according to the complaint.

Bastian did not immediately have information this morning on how the couple may be connected to the two men arrested Wednesday.

The attorneys for the couple have denied that their clients are guilty of shooting Sneed, but District Attorney George Gascon said after their not-guilty pleas on June 22 that prosecutors have “ample evidence that the parents conspired” to commit murder.
