sfpd_squad.jpgPolice are seeking a suspect who approached a teenage girl and tried to convince her to get into his van in San Francisco’s Bayview District on Tuesday morning.

The incident was reported at about 8 a.m. near the intersection of Palou Avenue and Newhall Street.

The girl was waiting for a bus when an orange van approached and parked in front of her, according to police.

A man in the van opened the passenger side door of the vehicle and told the teen in Spanish to get in so he could give her a ride, police said.

When the girl refused, the man then asked for her phone number and she refused to give it to him, prompting him to get out of the vehicle and try to grab her. The girl backed away and avoided his grip, and the man got back into his van and drove away, police said.

The girl did not report the incident until later Tuesday evening, and the suspect had not been found as of this afternoon, according to police.

He is described as a Hispanic man between 27 and 30 years old with dark skin, a skinny build and long black hair. He was last seen wearing beige pants and an orange T-shirt, police said.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
