wave.jpgA high surf advisory is set to go into effect through Sunday afternoon along the Bay Area coast, according to the National Weather Service.

The high surf warning will be in effect from 9 p.m. Saturday through 3 p.m. Sunday along the San Francisco-Peninsula Coast and Monterey Bay area coastline, according to weather officials.

Swells are expected to increase this afternoon before subsiding Sunday afternoon. Breakers could reach up to 17 feet, officials said.

Weather officials advise there may be strong rip currents and sneaker waves.

Local beaches face possible erosion as strong waves hit Bay Area shores.
