This afternoon at the Hall of Justice, SFPD will be honoring its Investigations Bureau for its work in 2011. While the ceremony will recognize the many individuals who made 2011 a standout year, there’s one employee who will be singled out for special recognition.

According to a press release sent by SFPD, Chief Greg Suhr will be awarding a department star to Mac, a 3-year-old Springer Spaniel who “has assisted in the seizure of over $3,750,000.00 in US currency determined to be illegal proceeds from narcotics trafficking.”

Mac has also helped police seize “over 500 lbs of illegal controlled substances, including multiple pounds of cocaine HCL, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA and heroin,” police say.

Mac, who came to us from England, joined SFPD in July 2010.

The ceremony honoring Mac and his colleagues is planned for Wednesday at 2 PM at the Hall of Justice, 850 Bryant Street Room 551.
