booze.jpgIn celebration of, well… not much of anything since the 9ers fell to the New York Giants, police planning a sobriety checkpoint in SF on Super Bowl Sunday.

The checkpoint will runs from 8:30 PM on February 5 until 3 AM on February 6 on Lombard St. at Divisadero St., police say. It’ll be manned by officers from CHP, SF State, the U.S. Park Police and “other agencies,” they say.

Whether you’re watching Madonna’s engaging-as-hell halftime performance or drowning your sorrows by watching reruns of Super Bowls XVI, XIX, XXIII, XXIV, XXIX, or researching trips to New Orleans for next year’s Super Bowl, (a fan can dream, damn it!) SFPD doesn’t want you to end up like this.

Says SFPD Sgt. Neil Swendsen, “Make sure all of your guests designate their sober drivers before kick-off or help arrange ride-sharing with other sober drivers. Treat the designated drivers well; give them the best seats to watch the game and the first passes at the buffet table; make sure their cars aren’t blocked in when it’s time to leave.”
