SFPD has announced an arrest in Monday night’s fatal stabbing at a SOMA homeless shelter, San Francisco’s fourth homicide of 2012.
Officers responded to a report of a stabbing at 6:58 PM Monday at The St. Vincent de Paul Homeless Center Multi-Purpose South at 525 Fifth Street, at Bryant.
Upon arriving at the shelter, police found a 44-year-old man who had been stabbed in his torso. The Ex reports the stabbing was the result of a fight between the victim and suspect.
The San Francisco man was pronounced dead at a local hospital. According to the Weekly, the Medical Examiner’s office knows the identity of the victim, and will release it after his family’s been notified.
The suspect fled, police said. At 7:09 PM, however, a sergeant from the Honda Unit detained Ricky Leon Scott, a 63 year-old resident of San Francisco who matched the suspect description, at Bryant and 4th Street.
According to SFPD, witnesses identified him as the suspect in the homicide.
Scott was taken into custody and booked into County Jail on the charge of murder.
According to Bay City News, No one at the homeless shelter was willing to comment on the stabbing this afternoon. An employee at the shelter referred inquiries to
Pamela Tebo, of the San Francisco Human Services Agency, and Tebo was not
immediately available for comment.
