police-light-bar1.jpg5:08 PM: Two vehicles crashed head-on at Skyline Boulevard and Herbst Road near San Francisco’s Lake Merced this afternoon, injuring three people, a fire department spokeswoman said.

The crash was called in at 2:35 p.m., fire department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.

A silver Toyota sedan traveling north on Skyline Boulevard crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a white Honda sedan traveling south, police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

Both drivers were extricated by the fire department using the Jaws of Life, he said.

The driver of the Toyota is believed to be a 60-year-old woman, Andraychak said. She has been transported to a hospital and is expected to survive.

The driver of the Honda, believed to be man in his 20s, suffered life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in the Honda, a woman in her 20s, was also injured but is expected to survive.

Both occupants of the Honda were also taken to a hospital, Andraychak said.

The San Francisco Police Department is investigating the crash.

The crash shut down the southbound lane of Skyline Boulevard, Andraychak said.

The crash, which was called in at 2:35 p.m., left three people with life-threatening injuries, fire department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.
