A San Francisco-bound American Airlines flight made an emergency landing shortly after it left New York City Sunday night, American Airlines spokesman Ed Martelle said.
American Airlines Flight 177 departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport, but had to land because of a burning smell, possibly from an electrical problem.
The Boeing 767-200 landed at Buffalo Niagra International Airport just after 4 p.m. PST. No injuries were reported among the 177 passengers.
Martelle said the landing was precautionary and that an emergency was declared to expedite the landing.
American Airlines set up a return flight to San Francisco that was scheduled to land at SFO at 1:50 p.m.
