sfpd_squad.jpg1:32 PM: A suspicious package has been rendered safe after causing the evacuation of a Salvation Army donation center in San Francisco’s Mission District for a couple of hours today, police said.

The package was reported at 11:08 a.m. at the donation center located at 1500 Valencia St.

Employees at the center found a suspicious looking package mixed in with some items that had been donated, police spokesman Sgt. Mike Andraychak said.

The employees were evacuated and the Police Department’s bomb squad was called in to investigate the package, Andraychak said.

He said the package was rendered safe as of 1:15 p.m.

The police response caused the closure of streets near the intersection of Valencia and 26th streets, but all streets have since reopened, Andraychak said.

The package was reported at 11:08 a.m. at the donation center located at 1500 Valencia St.

Employees at the center found a suspicious package mixed in with some items that had been donated, police Sgt. Mike Andraychak said.

The employees were evacuated and the Police Department’s bomb squad was called in to investigate the package, Andraychak said.

He said the bomb squad remained at the center as of about 12:30 p.m.

No injuries have been reported.

The package has prompted the closure of Valencia Street between 26th and Cesar Chavez streets and 26th Street between San Jose Avenue and Valencia Street, Andraychak said.
