policeblotter_sfa.jpgLast Monday, 45 year old Markus Husarek thought it would be a good idea to practice his karate moves at Fisherman’s Wharf. As you might recall, it wasn’t. Around 4:40pm, Husarek’s eye of the tiger was clouded, and he allegedly grabbed an 85 year old passerby around the neck and threw him to the ground.

The victim suffered serious injuries, including pelvic fractures. Husarak has since pleaded not guilty to the seemingly unprovoked attacked that warrants charges of assault and elderly abuse. Although the victim’s condition has since improved, as the Ex reports, police say things could have been way worse, if it weren’t for 25 year old Modesto security guard Ryan Jones.

Jones caught the aftermath of the initial assault, pursuing Husarek as he approached an Asian couple. Husarek was reaching for the woman, says Jones, when Jones wrestled Husarek to the ground and handcuffed him.

For his brave efforts in stopping the attacks and helping police to arrest Markus Husarek, Jones was honored by SFPD at Thursday’s Compstat meeting.

Husarek is expected to return to court next Wednesday.
