Organizers are accepting reservations for a self defense class in San Francisco’s Glen Park neighborhood on May 25.

This is the second year the Glen Park Patrol Special Safety Committee is hosting a class to build confidence and teach safety awareness, organizers said.

“I’m very concerned that we learn to take care of ourselves,” organizer Ann Grogan said in a statement.

“Thugs are increasingly targeting those who walk about, oblivious to danger, talking on cells or texting,” she said. “We can stop that kind of dangerous practice and become more alert if we make a commitment to do so.”

The class will be conducted by instructor Ken Craig, who holds two black belts in two different martial arts, at the gymnasium of St. John School from 6:55 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The course is designed to be applicable to men and women over age 16, organizers said.

Reservations for the class are required by Friday. Reservations can be made by emailing anngrogan@gmail.com.

A fee of $40 is payable to the nonprofit Triangle Martial Arts Association at TMAA, 2912 Diamond St., Suite 239, San Francisco.

Full and partial scholarships are available on a first-come, first served basis.
