Volunteers hard at work cleaning up Great Highway, and our weather forecast is (happily) wrong again!

A section of the Great Highway and several Ocean Beach parking lots will be closed for much of Saturday for a community service event.

The Ocean Beach community cleanup
runs from 8 AM to 1 PM today, so, according to a press release sent by San Francisco’s Department of Public Works, the Great Highway will be closed to cars between Lincoln Avenue and Sloat Boulevard from 6 AM to 3 PM.

The parking lots along Ocean Beach, between Stairwell 21 (which between Beach Chalet and Lincoln) and Stairwell 27, will also be closed to cars from 6 AM to 2 PM Saturday.

The closures, DPW says, are to ensure safety of volunteers as they “conduct…extensive landscaping along the Great Highway medians as well as graffiti abatement along the Promenade.”

You can see these volunteers’ accomplishments at tomorrow’s Sunday Streets event, which will run on that same stretch of Great Highway from 11 AM to 4 PM (see a map here).

Needless to say (and yet I feel compelled to say it), the Great Highway and related roadways will again be closed to cars for that event, from 10:45 AM to 4:15 PM Sunday.
