policeblotter_sfa.jpgAn elderly man wielding a cane fended off two teens trying to rob him in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood on Monday afternoon, police said.

The robbery attempt was reported at about 3:35 p.m. Monday in the first block of Mirabel Avenue, according to police.

The 79-year-old victim was sitting on a bench when the teenage boys approached him. One of the boys pulled out a knife and demanded the man’s money, police said.

But instead of handing over his money, the man stood up with his cane in his hand, causing the teens to flee.

They had not been found as of this morning, and a detailed suspect description was not immediately available.

The man was uninjured in the incident.
