Crime is out of control in San Francisco. One only has to look at the soaring murder rate, the number of crimes that don’t involve killing, an SFPD that has no leadership thanks to Prince Newsom’s clever little appointment scheme, and hundreds and hundreds of criminals being let go due to former DA Harris’ incompetence, the Crime Lab Scandal, and so on.

Meanwhile Mayor Lee is similing for the cameras and making sure rich people get a yacht race. I guess he and his family don’t have to worry about crime so he doesn’t care. Just like he doesn’t care about Muni, doesn’t care about rampant privatization of the parks…oh but hey let’s talk about his cute mustasche. Tee hee!

I disagree Greg. Crime is not soaring by historical standards and you really have to refer to FBI crime stats to get that perspective. The murder rate is separate and mostly concerns beefs between young men of color.

To lay the blame for the SFPD’s dysfunction at Kamala or Newsom’s doors (both of whom I have little respect for) glosses over the fact that the SFPD has had deep problems for decades – there have been at least two civil grand jury reports and three outside consultants (paid for by the SFPD) in the last 15 years that have outlined the many problems w/in the department and they have never taken the advice given in these reports.

For me the bottom line is that the SFPD does not promote based on merit and they do not train their investigators to a high enough standard. SF juries can be very thoughtful and they are not interested in convicting people based on a half-assed investigation.

Culture is a difficult thing to change and cop-culture is no different.

Sean… that was very well stated! The major problem I see with Goofy Newsom and Mizz Harris is that they left they city by the bay to carry their road show to Sacramento. Now they can infect the rest of the state… not that it needs their help!
