The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is holding a fundraiser Wednesday night in the city’s Mission District to help victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami.
All 11 supervisors will be at the event, which will be held at the SOM Bar at 2925 16th St. The fundraiser will feature a silent auction of items donated by the supervisors.
Supervisor Jane Kim is offering luxury box seats at a San Francisco Giants game and a pair of tickets to Burning Man, among other items.
Supervisor Sean Elsbernd is offering a behind-the-scenes tour of the San Francisco Zoo for four people, while Supervisors Eric Mar and Mark Farrell are donating tickets to the California Academy of Sciences and the Exploratorium.
Money raised at the event will go to the Northern Japan Earthquake Relief Fund and the Japan Multicultural Relief Fund.
The devastating quake and resulting tsunami along Japan’s northeastern coast on March 11 left more than 15,000 people dead or missing, and caused as much as $235 billion in damage, according to estimates by the World Bank.
Also tonight, the University of San Francisco is holding a candlelight vigil for victims of the disaster.
The event will include a moment of silence, speeches of hope, a musical performance and a candle-lighting ceremony.
A donation station will be set up at that event for people wishing to donate money to the relief efforts.
The USF event is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Room 250 at the McLaren Conference Center on the university’s campus.
