muni_driver.jpg5:55 PM: One woman was taken to a hospital this afternoon after a crash involving a San Francisco Municipal Railway light-rail vehicle and a car in the city’s Sunset District, police said.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a collision at 2:38 p.m. at the intersection of Judah Street and 24th Avenue.

The car was driving south on 24th Avenue and ran a red light, police Officer Eric Chiang said. (There’s actually not a stop light at 24th and Judah, though there is a stop sign on 24th and no stop for Judah traffic. Since we at the Appeal didn’t speak to Chiang directly, I’m not going to change his quote, but I will say that I suspect he means the driver ran the stop sign, not a red light — EB)

The N-Judah light rail vehicle hit the car on its passenger side, according to Muni spokesman Paul Rose.

The driver of the car was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

No passengers aboard the Muni vehicle were injured.

Muni has reported delays on the N-Judah line due to the accident.

Bus shuttles are being provided between 19th Avenue and La Playa Street along Judah Street.

The intersection of 24th Avenue and Judah Street was closed to traffic and should reopen by 6 p.m., Chiang said.

N-Judah service is expected to resume once the police have cleared the scene, Rose said.
