Lee, formerly the city administrator, was unanimously approved by the Board of Supervisors this afternoon to replace Gavin Newsom, who assumed his new post as the state’s lieutenant governor on Monday.

Lee was sworn in as mayor at 4:12 p.m. by San Francisco Superior Court Judge Katherine Feinstein at City Hall.

In a speech afterward, Lee pledged to be a mayor “for everyone.”

He was selected by the board Friday following much political jockeying between the board’s progressive and moderate factions.

Lee is San Francisco’s first Chinese-American mayor.

4:00 PM Ed Lee was unanimously approved by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors this afternoon as the city’s interim mayor.

After much political jockeying, Lee, formerly the city administrator, was tentatively selected by the board on Friday to replace Gavin Newsom, who was sworn in as the state’s lieutenant governor on Monday.

Following the unanimous 11-0 vote today, Lee will be sworn in by San Francisco Superior Court Judge Katherine Feinstein at about 4 p.m.
