Neil+Young+NeilYoung.jpgA star-studded fundraiser for a local children’s hospital is being held in San Francisco tonight, and will include a speech by former Secretary of State Colin Powell and a performance by musician Neil Young.

Money raised at the event, which will be held at the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium, will go toward building a new home for the University of California at San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital.

The new 183-bed hospital will be part of an integrated hospital complex for children, women and cancer patients in the city’s Mission Bay neighborhood. The fundraising goal for the hospital is $600 million, and they are currently at about $375 million, according to event organizers.

Folk singer Joanna Newsom will be the opening act at the event, and will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas will be performing as a DJ at an exclusive after-party for concert guests.

Tickets cost $250 for upper rear balcony seats or wheelchair seating, $500 for balcony seating, and can be bought here.

A cocktail reception is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., followed by the welcome speech by Powell at 7:45 p.m., musical performances at 8 p.m., and a dessert reception afterward, all at the auditorium located at 1111 California St.

The location of the after-party will be announced at the concert.
