The Meals on Wheels program provides nearly three million meals to more than 8,500 senior citizens throughout the Bay Area. In Santa Clara County, officials estimate more than 1,400 seniors were served more than 609,000 meals in the last fiscal year.

The program gives hot meals to homebound elders who have no other means of getting food. Counties across the state who normally step in to help the poorest seniors face tighter budgets and are finding it more difficult to provide food.

The Bay Area’s first annual Dine Out Now for Meals on Wheels will benefit senior nutrition programs in seven regional counties.

Some of the participating restaurants include multiple locations of Hobee’s, Celia’s Mexican Restaurant and Amici’s Pizza, Amato Pizza, Paolo’s, Chaat Cafi, and Burrito Factory in San Jose, The American “Bull” Bar & Grill in Burlingame, The Front Porch, Paragon, and Marlowe in San Francisco, Yet Wah in San Rafael, Sfoofs Woofle Cafi in Berkeley, Grissini Tratoria and Wine Bar in Concord, and Buttercup Grill and Bar in Vallejo, and dozens more.
