police-light-bar1.jpgTwo police officers were injured and San Francisco Municipal Railway service was disrupted this evening when a patrol car crashed into a utility pole near the Bernal Heights neighborhood, a police spokesman said.

The officers were driving south on San Jose Avenue near Randall Street when they collided with the pole at 6:39 p.m. and knocked it down, Sgt. Mike Andreychak said.

The officers were taken a local hospital and treated for injuries that were not expected to be life threatening.

The pole was connected to Muni electrical wires on the Muni Metro line, Andreychak said, and the crash disrupted service in the area.

San Jose Avenue was closed to traffic in both directions while crews repair the pole and replace the Muni lines. The street was not expected to reopen until about 4 a.m., Andreychak said.
