At least five people are believed to be missing following an explosion in San Bruno Thursday evening, officials said.

Police are searching for five people who went missing after a massive explosion, which happened at about 6:15 p.m. Thursday evening at Skyline Boulevard and San Bruno Avenue.

Officers are focusing their search to three specific areas for the missing people, San Bruno police Chief Neil Telford said today.

Telford said efforts will be focused on the 1600 block of Claremont Drive, the 1100 block of Fairmont Drive, and the 1700 block of Earl Avenue.

All patients who were transported to the hospital or who were treated at the emergency room have been identified, Telford said.

San Bruno spokesman Steve Firpo said today that officials have recovered remains from the explosion, which happened at about 6:15 p.m. Thursday evening at Skyline Boulevard and San Bruno Avenue, but they do not know if they are from a person or animal.

Firpo said at about 5 p.m. that the fatality count following the explosion remained at four deaths.
