3:04 PM:Arraignment was postponed today for a 29-year-old San Francisco man charged with vehicular manslaughter in connection with a deadly crash on Saturday morning in the city’s Richmond District.
Prosecutors have charged Williams R. Rojas with vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license, district attorney’s office spokesman Seth Steward said.
Steward said Rojas appeared in court on the charges this morning, but arraignment and plea entry were postponed until Sept. 27.
Rojas remains in custody on $800,000 bail, Steward said.
Rojas allegedly ran a stop sign in his SUV at Cabrillo Street and 40th Avenue at about 2:50 a.m., hitting another vehicle, police said.
One of the passengers in the vehicle that was struck, 65-year-old Helen Calma, of San Francisco, died of her injuries later that day, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Calma was born and raised in Manila, and moved to the United States in 1969, according to an obituary. She worked at Pacific Bell for 32 years is survived by her husband, two children and granddaughter.
A funeral is scheduled for Saturday.
