This Saturday, Sept. 4, concludes three weeks of Saturday sobriety checkpoints put on by Avoid The 8. The national crackdown’s “Summer Mobilization” (as popularized in commercials of drivers in alcohol-flooded cars) ends at midnight on Monday.
For Saturday’s checkpoints, prepare to stop between 8:15pm and 3am. Since the start of the campaign, dubbed “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit, Under Arrest”, SFPD has arrested 73 DUI suspects.
“We’ll be heading into the Labor Day weekend, and we want to keep the streets safe from the property damage, injury and death drunk and drugged drivers so often cause,” said Sgt. Neil Swendsen of the San Francisco police.
