mn_hunters_point_0003_jc1.jpgYoung basketball players in Bayview-Hunters Point will have an opportunity to learn from the experts Tuesday when a few former National Basketball Association stars pay the area a visit as part of a life skills seminar for neighborhood youth.

Basketball hall-of-famer George “The Iceman” Gervin and Artis “The A-Train” Gilmore, both formerly of the San Antonio Spurs, will be hosting a basketball clinic for the young Bayview community at several locations throughout the day.

“I am super excited to work with the youth of Bayview-Hunters Point,” said Gervin in a prepared statement. “It is imperative that we demonstrate our commitment to our youth through active participation in their academic and social development.”

The clinics and seminars are sponsored by a youth sports and development program called Shaping and Preparing Youth, which is working in conjunction with the city’s housing authority to offer young people healthy summer activities.

Clinics will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Joseph Lee Recreation Center, at 11:30 a.m. at the Bayview-Hunters Point YMCA, and at 1:30 p.m. at the Willie Mays Boys and Girls Club.
