police-light-bar1.jpgThe California Highway Patrol has reopened all eastbound lanes of traffic on the Bay Bridge this morning after clearing a fatal crash, an officer said.

Units responded to the eastbound portion of the Bay Bridge near Treasure Island at around 3:50 a.m., CHP Officer Jonathan short said.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of a four-door Volvo traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into the rear of a big rig truck carrying recyclables, causing the vehicle and the rear of the truck to catch fire.

The driver of the vehicle died in the fire, Short said.

The CHP reopened all lanes after three were blocked by the crash for more than two hours.

A Sig-alert was issued at 4:10 a.m. and canceled at 6 a.m.
