Okay, I know we don’t like Karen Elson, because she’s a model and she married Jack White in a canoe on the Amazon River. However, judging by her debut LP ‘The Ghost Who Walks‘, her modeling and rockstar rainforest marriage may soon be ancillary to her music career and not the other way around.

All you really need to do to decide that you want to go to her show is watch the video for the title track. ‘The Ghost That Walks’ will (literally) haunt your cube. Her voice is arresting (only partly because you didn’t expect much), her fiery hair is in full effect (proving once and for all that Jack White loves bangs), and she seems to be really feeling her own southern gothic Dolly Parton performance, which is pretty much the most and the least we can ask from a performer (I’m talking to you MGMT). She might even have the chops to escape White’s long shadow, and if not there’s always the possibility that he’ll pop up and burn the house down.

Elson performs Tuesday June 8 at Cafe du Nord (it’s small so you can get really really close to her). Doors open at 8:30 and tickets are $15.
