The Bay Area’s permissible burn season for flood debris fires ends Monday, according to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.
Flood debris fires are set to remove wood and vegetation deposited on farmland during floods, according to the district.
During the winter, controlled fires can be set for agricultural reasons, flood control, fire training and fire hazard prevention.
The open burning is regulated because it impacts air quality, and each day during the permissible burn season is designated a burn or no burn day based upon weather conditions, the air quality management district said.
The flood debris burn season ends Monday in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma counties.
