sfpd_squad.jpgA police officer shot at the driver of a vehicle in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood Wednesday night, a police spokeswoman said.

The incident took place at 10:49 p.m. at the dead-end of Reardon Road at Kiska Road, Lt. Lyn Tomioka said.

The officer involved had been one of a number of plain-clothes officers in the area at the time as part of a crime reduction program, Tomioka said.

When the officers approached a suspicious vehicle, the driver of the vehicle sped towards the officers.

At least one officer fired at the driver before the vehicle fled the scene. Tomioka said that police don’t know at this time how many times the officer fired or whether the vehicle or driver were struck.

The officer who fired at the driver was uninjured, she said.

The incident is currently under investigation. Police are asking that anyone who might have information on the incident to call the San Francisco Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444.
