Greetings from the Richmond,

Aside from the threat of a tsunami out at Ocean Beach last Saturday, it’s been pretty quiet around the neighborhood.

This Sunday is Oscar night and the Balboa Theater is celebrating with a public viewing on the big screen. Cheer on your favorite films, jeer at the dresses and oogle the bling along with other San Franciscans. Plus a costume contest, prizes, the always good Balboa snack bar, and an entertaining emcee to get you through the numerous commercial breaks.

A new Thai-Japanese fusion restaurant is opening its doors soon at Geary and 18th Avenue. Morph is set to serve up an ever-changing menu that will include delectables like green curry served with salmon, deep-fried rice-paper salmon rolls with wasabi dip, and sweet-spicy chicken. No one’s tasted their food yet, but the design aesthetic is mouthwatering.

If you’re too lazy or busy to go out to eat, then Soup Galaxy may be just the thing for you. They deliver fresh, homemade soups right to your doorstep. I tried them this week and loved it. They currently deliver to portions of the Richmond District, Seacliff, Sunset, and St. Francis Woods neighborhoods.

I’ll leave you with a couple of Academy of Science tidbits. Check out “Animals sometimes get the best of their Academy keepers” for stories on how the Academy’s critters often outsmart their handlers.

And while I like to believe there are fewer fiends and snakes in the Richmond than in other city neighborhoods, there are always the real kind over at the Academy. Last week they shared a video of their Pit Viper getting her weekly meal. Check out the video below – chomp!

Have a great weekend everyone,
