A Bay Area mother and daughter were ordered Monday to stand trial for multiple counts of tax evasion alleging they failed to report more than $1 million in income to the Internal Revenue Service.
Maria Virginia Reyes, 60, is accused of underreporting more than $683,800 between 2003 and 2007, and she faces five counts of felony tax evasion.
Her daughter Christine Reyes, 36, is accused of omitting almost $345,000 on her IRS forms between 2003 and 2006. She faces four counts.
The two women lived in Menlo Park during the time of their alleged fraud.
They were indicted by a federal grand jury in San Francisco and are scheduled to appear in court on March 25 for trial setting.
If convicted, they face maximum penalties of five years in prison and $250,000 for each count of tax evasion, but the actual sentence will be determined after consideration of federal sentencing guidelines..
